About Me

Daniel Eriksson

Nature has been really important to me ever since childhood. Alternating between life on board boats and in the woods, my early activities revolved around nature. Now, after spending more than half my working life in a nine to five routine, I have decided to follow my heart and pursue my passion. It's back to nature for me!

I confess that I am something of a social hermit - although I enjoy contact with friends, I actually prefer to spend solitary days enjoying nature and all it has to offer. Being surrounded by nature encourages a slowing down and helps to facilitate patience, a critical prerequisite in wildlife photography. Animals and birds continuously manifest an array of fascinating characteristics, which I focus on capturing in the best possible light, whilst striving for the 'perfect' picture.

My aim is to share my passion through the medium of photography. Let me bring some wildlife into your home!

Today I live in a remote house in Åland, Finland. My closest neighbours are about 1 km away. Through my windows I can see all kinds of wildlife, including a variety of birds, plus deer, foxes and even the occasional moose or otter. With my camera and my dog for company I roam the countryside waiting for the unexpected. I was fortunate enough to capture images of the Aurora Borealis from my balcony, one of which won the “Picture of the Week” contest in Swedish TV4 news.

In springtime I go to my little hunting lodge on an island in the Eckerö archipelago, where I am frequently woken by the tuneful calls of the seabirds or the mating songs of the black grouse and other melodic bird sounds. The beautiful eider ducks are one of my favourite birds to watch as they perform their courtship songs and dances. Sadly, the numbers of eiders have significantly decreased in our archipelago and I am actively engaged in helping their survival.

My fascination for wildlife has also taken me overseas. I travel far and wide to not only share my passion but to draw attention, through photography, to the fragility of nature and indeed to raise awareness of nature's capacity to heal itself.

I regularly provide magazines with picture stories of wildlife. Let me offer you some images of extraordinary animal and bird life!

Why don't you join me on my nature journey!

/Daniel
